These pretty little weeds grow outside my studio. The friendly yellow flowers looked so pretty in the sunlight, I couldn't resist sitting right next to them and painting. I've created this piece with pen and alcohol inks. The more I work with inks, the more I enjoy creating paintings by taking elements away. Quite a different direction from my oil painting days! I often spend the majority of my time "erasing" the colors I've laid down before, particularly with backgrounds. I guess living life is like that. Sometimes you need a lot to make it through the day, and sometimes less is best.

The last night of a Smoky Mountain vacation, the stars were out in a clear sky and there was a lightning storm on the other side of Mt. LeConte. Fog was rising up from the valleys, frogs and crickets were creating a chorus, and fireflies were everywhere. This painting is my attempt at capturing some of that mountain magic.
